National Night Out Brings The Dalles Community Together

National Night Out Brings The Dalles Community Together

By Joshuah Albert

The Dalles, Ore. Aug. 7, 2024 – The Dalles City Park buzzed with excitement last night, Aug. 6th, as the community gathered for the second annual National Night Out event.

The event works to build community and strengthen police-community partnerships with the goal of making neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live.

So, police and fire representatives provided a show and tell for children and their families, in hopes of increasing comfort levels between residents and law enforcement, and ultimately driving down crime.

The street adjacent to the park was closed off, filled with police cars, emergency vehicles, ambulances, and even a search and rescue boat, offering a unique opportunity for children to explore the interiors of these vehicles.

Following the success of last year's inaugural event, The Dalles First Responders decided to continue this community-building tradition.

Patrol Sergeant Tyler Caldwell, who organized the event, expressed his enthusiasm for the increased turnout. "This turnout is way better than last year. I love seeing all the smiles here; that's what this is all about,"

"We started this last year to try it out, and the response was really good, so we decided to keep carrying the torch," Caldwell said.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, a variety of food carts lined the parking lot across the street, offering delicious options for attendees to enjoy.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for the community to connect with local first responders in a fun and interactive setting.
