Saturday rain helped keep the neighborhood green over the weekend. Oscar Bustamante was getting after it this morning, Monday, Sept. 20. at the offices of Onstott Broehl & Cyphers CPAs at 100 Fourth Street, The Dalles.

While refreshing, the rain was likely a bit frustrating for farmers. Joanne and David Brewer who farm east of The Dalles reported 0.2 to 0.3 inches of rain. Farmers would love to be able to seed into a solid inch of the stuff to ensure healthy germination. But alas, dryland wheat farming must take what Mother Nature is willing to give. Hopefully, she delivers after fall dips a toe in on the equinox on Wednesday.

On the upside, soft white wheat was still trading for $10 a bushel, about 40 percent more than a year ago this morning according to Mid-Columbia Producers website.
