Mosier, Ore., Oct. 27, 2026 — An overturned semi-truck carrying a fully loaded trailer shut down westbound Interstate 84 near Mosier early Tuesday morning, blocking traffic in both directions and causing significant damage to highway barriers and guardrails.
According to Oregon State Police, the single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 12:35 a.m. near milepost 71 in Wasco County.
Investigators said a gray 2026 Freightliner was traveling westbound in the right lane when the driver attempted to change lanes to pass another vehicle.
The truck lost control, struck the median, crossed back into the right lane and collided with a guardrail before overturning onto its driver's side.
The truck came to rest blocking both westbound lanes, while its trailer extended into the left eastbound lane.
The crash damaged 15 median barriers, 20 rail posts and 15 sections of guardrail, according to OSP.
Emergency responders closed all westbound lanes and one eastbound lane while crews worked to remove the overturned truck and trailer.
Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue provided ambulance response as part of its emergency medical service area. No injuries were reported.
Guzman Brothers Towing and the Oregon Department of Transportation moved the truck and trailer to the right shoulder.
The driver, identified as David M. Pencovschi, 38, of Portland, was cited for violating Oregon's basic speed rule. He was given a courtesy ride to Mosier.
Traffic reopened by 7 a.m.
According to an update from emergency officials, traffic was moving again by 7 a.m. Tuesday, although limited lane closures remained in place.
