Maupin, Ore., Jan. 29, 2025 — A woman was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing a pickup truck in The Dalles and crashing it south of Maupin, according to law enforcement officials.

Wasco County deputies said the incident began around 5:17 a.m. when a white 2025 Ford F-150 was stolen from Dinty’s Market in The Dalles. Deputies pursued the vehicle but lost sight of it.

Shortly before 6 a.m., the truck crashed on a sweeping curve leading into Maupin on Highway 197 at Milepost 45. Authorities said the driver lost control, skidded into a rock embankment, and rolled the vehicle onto its roof.

A witness who heard the crash checked on the driver and reported that she appeared impaired and repeatedly told him that she loved him.

Deputies said the woman, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. She was taken into custody by Wasco County authorities.

The pickup, which was reported stolen by Jerry Walter Freeman, 72, of Turner, was recovered and towed by Barnett’s Towing.

The case remains under investigation by the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office.
