Rain is On the Way for Gorge: 10-Day Forecast For The Dalles, Hood River, Goldendale, and Cascade Locks

A radar map from Weather.com shows the current conditions in the Columbia River Gorge on January 17 at 12:15 p.m.

By Cole Goodwin

The Dalles, Ore, January 17, 2024 – The City of the Dalles, The City of Hood River, and Wasco County Offices are closed today due to inclement weather as a winter storm has brought ice, snow, and freezing rain to large swaths of the Northwest.

Tough driving conditions look to continue as heavy snow and ice will move toward thawing and freezing as temps reach above freezing during daytime hours.

More than 80,000 homes and businesses were without power in Oregon as of early this morning. And the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the entire Columbia River Gorge area. Hood River, White Salmon, and Cascade Locks were under an ice storm warning until 12 p.m. today, Jan. 17, 2024.

A map from NOAA’s storm prediction center.

Forecasts for the region show temperatures in the low 20s to low 40s with a wintery mix of snow, rain, and ice for much of the gorge over the next several days. Predictions move to above-freezing temperatures and rain for much of the Gorge by the end of next week.

However, the public is advised that high-elevation areas and areas that get little sun exposure may see snow and ice longer than river-level areas and road conditions may vary widely throughout the region.
