Little Art City Strikes Again
Jonathan and Shannon Zilka have put some new faces on the ancient walnut tree outside their home and business at 318 E. Fourth St., The Dalles, across from the Civic Auditorium.
The couple recently had Robert Tidwell from Rainier add two more owl carvings to the snag, bringing the total to four.
“Huge thanks to Robert,” Shannon said on Wednesday, March 10.
Landmarks like these are great for people who are new to The Dalles or are touring.
Maybe this becomes Owl Junction or Wisdom Crossing. Whatever you call it, you can’t miss it.
I can hear it now:
“Where’s the ice cream shop?”
“Just go up the street, and when you see the owl at the top of the tree, you’re there.”
The Zilkas are expected to open Shannon’s Ice Cream shop in days to come.
Who will strike next in Little Art City?
And once again, I recognize that I have ripped this slogan off from musician Al Hare, who has coined The Dalles “Little Music City.” Imitation is the best form of flattery.
