The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 23, 2024 — Our latest puzzler was much like a real rodeo. A lot of spectators and just a few riders.

Last week we asked locals to name the park in which this rodeo took place in 1934.

And we had five people put their boots in the stirrups to ride this question for a shot at the winner’s circle.

They went five for five - all right, alright, alright!

So we shaved the names of our puzzlers into the side of five calves and sent them out the shoot. And our first lasso looped Denise Ellis, who we believe has yet to miss a puzzle since its inception.

Great work Denise! You are this week’s Shannon’s Trivia Winner!

Shannon’s awaits you, Denise Ellis. Shannon’s Ice Cream 318 E. Fourth Street, scooping the dream daily from noon to 9 p.m. It’s across the street from the Civic Auditorium. Look for the boneshaker out front.

Others who answered the question correctly were Anne Huteson, Mary Davis, Gwen Lincoln and Amy Ellis.

But are all around Cowgirl champions were Davis and Amy Ellis who also got the name of the rider and the horse correct - Curley Milliken on Idle Hour.

Thanks to John Foley with sending us these great photos of Sorosis Park in its early days.

For good measure, John included this article from 1970 about Sorosis Park and its expansion.
