Hood River, OR – December 4, 2023: - On December 7th at 11:00 a.m. PST, one local family from the Columbia Gorge will receive the gift of transportation thanks to The United Way of the Columbia Gorge’s partner Underriner Ford and Nissan of The Dalles.

Thanks to the Underriner Ford and Nissan of The Dalles, consisting of associates in all departments throughout the organization, Christina Mott and her family will receive a gently used car for Christmas. Christina is a single mother of three children who works hard to support her family, however, the lack of a reliable vehicle creates a major challenge to her success. Christina’s car broke down last summer causing her to struggle to find transportation for the past year. Receiving this vehicle will be life-changing for Christina and her family as it will give them the freedom of dependable transportation.

The vehicle is the first such gift that Underriner Ford and Nissan of The Dalles have given away in The Dalles. “Efficient, safe, and affordable transportation is a key component to not only a family’s financial success through employment but their ability to be part of our community and have access to essential life-shaping opportunities that enable people to improve their living conditions and escape poverty. We are excited to bring our Annual Car Giveaway to The Dalles. It touches all of our lives, and we look forward to it each year at our other locations.” says Blake Underriner, Managing Partner. “Working as a united team with our local nonprofit organizations and generous donors such as Underriner Ford and Nissan of The Dalles enhances our community and provides life-changing support for families in need,” replied Caroline Grew, United Way of the Columbia Gorge’s Executive Director.

United Way of the Columbia Gorge’s 27 local non-profit partners were invited to submit nominations to United Way for potential candidates in need of transportation. United Way board members and council members vetted the applications for eligibility and need. A committee of Underriner Ford and Nissan of The Dalles associates made the final decision on the recipient and dedicated their time to assuring that the gently used car is safe and reliable. They also put together a collection and purchased gifts for Christina’s children that will be wrapped and placed in the car as a fun surprise.

The vehicle will be presented and given by the Underriner Ford and Nissan of The Dalles leaders and associates, at the Underriner Ford and Nissan of The Dalles Dealership, 2400 W 6th St, The Dalles, OR 97058 at 11:00 a.m. PST at Thursday, December 7th, 2023.
