Sluggers Give Their Moms the Best Gift: A Championship
This past weekend May 8-9th the 14U (7th-8th grade boys) Sluggers baseball team competed in a tournament in Estacada. Coached by David Ortega and Bailey Ortega, the team did phenomenal. Despite having strict pitching rules to prevent over-pitching the players, the team found ways to win.
They found themselves in the championship, on mothers day no less. The moms were pretty excited to have such a big win on mothers day.
Day 1:
Game 1 vs. West Salem - Lost 9-5
Game 2 vs. Newberg - Won 9-7
Ended the day as the #4 seed.
Day 2:
Game 1 vs. Newberg - This was an intense game. They were down by 2 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Trey Hodges singled. Will Booth singled. Finley Corbin tripled to score Hodges and Booth. Game was tied. Evan Ortega hit a deep fly ball to center. Corbin tagged and scored the winning run. They won 10-9.
Game 2 vs. Stayton - Won 9-6
Game 3 (CHAMPIONSHIP) vs. West Salem - The strict pitching rules created an interesting game for both of these teams. Yet the Sluggers won 12-8
