Wamic, Ore., March 17, 2025 — The South Wasco Health Collaborative, in partnership with Bridges to Health, is launching a series of community meet-and-greet events aimed at connecting local families with local health and support services.

The events, to be held at the Wamic Community Center, will provide an opportunity for parents to meet June, the region’s dedicated Community Health Worker (CHW), while children enjoy a variety of activities in a welcoming and relaxed environment.

The gatherings are scheduled as follows:

  • April 10 | 3:00–5:00 PM – Parents of children ages 0-5

  • April 15 | 4:00–6:00 PM – Parents of children ages 6-11

  • April 24 | 4:00–6:00 PM – Parents of teens ages 12-18

“These events are an opportunity for parents to ask questions, share concerns, and learn about the resources available to them,” said June, the South Wasco Community Health Worker. “We know that navigating healthcare and supportive services can be overwhelming, and we’re here to help make those connections easier.”

A Community Health Worker (CHW) serves as a trusted liaison between healthcare providers, social service agencies, and the community. Their role is to help individuals and families access essential services, including Oregon Health Plan enrollment, mental health resources, food assistance, and medical appointment coordination. In addition to meeting in June, families attending the event will enjoy complimentary food and beverages, along with a selection of games, arts and crafts, puzzles, and music to keep children and teens entertained. The gatherings will also serve as a pilot program to determine interest in making these meet-ups a recurring event, with the possibility of expanding to Tygh Valley, Maupin, and other locations.

“These meet-ups aren’t just about providing information—they’re about building a sense of community,” said a communications representative from the South Wasco Health Collaborative. “We want parents to feel supported and connected to the resources that can help their families thrive.”

Attendees are encouraged to share feedback on scheduling, dietary restrictions, and activity preferences in advance to help organizers better meet community needs.
