At the council's Sept. 23 meeting on Monday, Mays recognized the graduates of the city's local government academy. The program is designed to prepare citizens to serve on commissions and committees, and it involves seven, hour-and-a-half sessions on how the city works, with tours of various departments, presentations, demonstrations, and lots of chances to ask questions.

Handshakes and smiles were all around as parents clicked photographs and grabbed videos. Elementary teachers were visibly proud, seeing the students they mentored reaching their goal of graduating high school.

The Dalles High School graduating seniors returned to their former grade schools this morning, June 3, to do the walk of fame as school children cheered their accomplishments. It is all part of the activities as they prepare for their final TDHS function, graduation on June 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Amaton Field behind the high school, 220 E. 10th Street.
