The residents of Shaniko got a wake-up call on Sunday night, Aug. 21, when a semi truck ran into the local ice cream shop and bashed its way through the entirety of the building.

Police are still searching for a 23-year-old local man after he reportedly led a Wasco County Deputy on a chase to a mile outside of Shaniko on Saturday morning, Nov. 13., where police report he fired on the deputy. A SWAT team was called out to a neighborhood in west The Dalles, but no arrest was made.
