Tax obligation for Google’s first data center gets murky with retooling of site. While tax revenues have dropped in recent years, Google will be on the hook for initial property taxes and fees that will be due on its new data center this coming November.

Today, the Oregon Employment Department announced the 2024 contribution rate for Paid Leave in Oregon and the 2024 tax rate for Unemployment Insurance. The department is mailing each employer their annual notice of the new rates. 

Google's first data center in The Dalles went online in 2007 and had been exempt from property taxes in Wasco County for the past 15 years. With the expiration of the enterprise zone abatement, this property is fully taxable and now on the tax roll this year.

The Dalles City Council will discuss and take public testimony on a 20-year deal with Google that could bring two new data centers and millions of dollars in taxes, fees and payments tonight, Monday, Feb. 22nd, starting at 5:30 p.m.
