Before a packed Gorge town hall, U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley warned democracy is under threat, drawing applause, criticism and urgent debate over ICE enforcement, surveillance, housing costs and the 2026 elections.

Improved schools, more trails and paths, a dog park, a sports complex, second-story apartments and upgraded commercial space downtown are just a few of the ideas that sprang forward as 118 people contributed to a virtual town hall for The City of The Dalles on Wednesday night, March 9.

"We also see an opportunity to expand service to other locations such as Dallesport, Wishram, Trout Lake, and perhaps at In Lieu sites to serve our Native communities," aid Leslie Naramore, WAGAP Executive Director. "A Mobile Food Pantry will allow us to do this."
