Survivors of violence stay for a multitude of reasons, be they financial, religious, fear, and more. Survivors of violence are more likely to die after they leave the violent relationship and the perpetrator has lost all control/access to them. We must stop asking "Why didn't they just leave" and instead start asking the real question of "Why perpetrators of Domestic Abuse choose to abuse"? Because Domestic Violence is always a choice that is being made by the perpetrator.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please join HAVEN and the Wasco County Domestic Violence Council for " An Evening of Light" candlelight vigil.
In August of 2022, Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) opened a new shelter in Klickitat County, providing temporary safe housing to those fleeing domestic violence. Managed by the team at Programs for Peaceful Living (PFPL), it was dubbed “Gina’s Place” in honor of State Representative Gina Mosbrucker, who championed the effort to bring Capital Funding to a County that had been without a domestic violence shelter for over two decades.
HAVEN and Wasco County Domestic Violence Council will gather with community partners to host “An Evening of Light” to honor survivors of domestic violence with a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. The event will be virtual this year due to the pandemic.
