TD Council cheers triple play of Junior Hawks after historic championship season

The Dalles, Ore., July 13, 2026 — Cheers filled The Dalles City Council chambers Monday evening as players, coaches and families with The Dalles Junior Baseball Association were recognized for a season that saw three Junior Hawks teams capture Oregon tournament championships.

"You deserve a lot of credit and recognition for that," Mayor Rich Mays told the players. "Success does not happen overnight. It takes a lot of dedication, discipline and hard work."

Mays presented certificates of recognition to players and coaches from the 10-under, 12-under and 14-under teams, praising their dedication and the pride they brought to The Dalles through their accomplishments on the field. Each player was recognized individually before joining teammates and coaches for commemorative photographs.

The championships marked a milestone for the growing youth baseball program, which began just three years ago with a single team and has since expanded to field multiple age divisions. This season, the age 10 and under or U, 12U and 14U teams each earned tournament titles, making it the most successful year in the association's history.

Patrick Urain

Junior Baseball Association President Patrick Urain thanked the coaches, parents, volunteers, The Dalles School District and local businesses whose support has helped the program grow. He said the success reflects a community-wide commitment to developing young athletes and providing opportunities for local youth to compete across Oregon.

"The parents in the room make it happen year after year," Urain said, drawing applause from the packed audience.
