Council holds emergency meeting on shelters at noon

The Dalles City Council will hold an emergency meeting to work toward providing temporary shelters for houseless residents of The Dalles.
The meeting is set for noon today.
Councilor Darcy Long-Curtiss has procured a $45,000 grant to purchase pop-up shelters.
The Council will consider the following decision:

Resolution No. 20-025 Resolution Relating to the Homelessness Public Health
Crisis and Directing the City Manager to Work Collaboratively with any
Necessary Parties Towards Providing Temporary Shelter for the City’s
Homeless Population

Wasco County Commissioner Kathy Schwartz commended Long-Curtiss for her work on obtaining funds to assist those who are sleeping outside.

“It is really important to help these folks with shelter, food and safety,” she said at a Council Monday work session on mental health. “How do we make this happen and make it happen pretty darn quick?”
