“The China Crew at the Seufert Brothers Cannery” is topic of the Saturday, Feb. 8 Regional History Forum at the Original Wasco County Courthouse. The photo shows the bunkhouse for Chinese workers, brought to The Dalles by labor contractors for the seasonal salmon runs.

Local archaeologists and historians Eric Gleason and Jacqueline Cheung explored company records, archived at the Oregon Historical Society, that shed light on these workers and the well-regarded product that they butchered and canned.

The program begins at 1:30 p.m. in the courtroom of the 1859 Courthouse, located at 410 W. 2nd Place, The Dalles. (Photo from the Gladys Seufert Collection at Oregon Historical Society)
