TD Kiwanis programs take a deep dive into foster care this June

KIWANIS PROGRAMS: Kiwanis meetings are held every Thursday at noon at Spooky’s and visitors are welcome. This month’s weekly events include:

— June 2 Judge Janet Stauffer on the role of courts in foster care.

— June 5 (Sunday) Kiwanians serve Community Meal, 3 p.m. at meal site.

— June 9 Shannon Tissot gives an attorney’s perspective on foster care.

— June 16 Program on foster care, speaker TBA.

— June 18 (Saturday) Work project at Kiwanis Pocket Park, 8 a.m.

— June 23 DHS Supervisor Tracy Dower on the foster care system.

— June 30 (no noon meeting) Social time at Sunshine Mill, 5 p.m.

Karl Vercouteren

Karl Vercouteren came to The Dalles in 1977 to become pastor of United Church of Christ Congregational. Early on he joined Cascade Singers and the Original Courthouse board, reflecting life-long interests in music and history. Since retirement in 2008 he has taken on several projects writing about local history.
