To better educate and serve students, The North Wasco Education Foundation is looking to increase its numbers through the recruitment of a more diverse group of volunteers.

“We need to have some current parents involved,” said Board Member Stephen Jupe. “Particularly, people from communities that are not represented well at the moment.”

Native Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders and other groups, as well as families whose resources are challenged, need to have a seat at the table, he said. It takes a good cross-section of our community to understand how to best provide for all students, he added.

Those interested should join a “meet and greet” foundation meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 5:30-6 p.m. Join the zoom meeting by clicking below. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86897797729?pwd=ck8yUUpaV0RTZ0NYWG9NbXR1TUwyUT09 Meeting ID: 868 9779 7729; Passcode: 849835

The Foundation is instrumental in assisting teachers and students in the community and wants to increase its reach.

Last year the foundation raised $28,000 for internet accessibility and providing food, and transportation and other needs for low-income students and their families during the COVID-19 crisis.

Foundation volunteers also ran a raffle fundraiser in the summer to double the number of classroom mini-grants they could offer to support distance learning in creative and innovative ways. The Foundation helped secure and provide administrative support for an additional $240,000.

The Foundation is also looking to increase legacy donations.

“Nobody is going to do that unless we have infrastructure, knowledge and the expertise to handle it,” Jupe said. “We need the legal and financial knowledge. Once we put that together, we can demonstrate that we are competent, and it is a legitimate way of leaving a legacy.”

Jupe said that will require a more permanent, consistent group at the Foundation.

NORTH WASCO EDUCATION FOUNDATION

A volunteer group of ‘resources’ who support teachers, students, and all community education providers

COME JOIN US!

  • Please, answer the following questions to see if you can help us.

  • Do you want to be a force for good for our community’s children?

  • Do you have one hour a month to join our group, currently on Zoom?

  • Can you be a voice for your neighbors?

  • Do you want to be a real force for good for our students and our schools?

We are looking for more ‘members at large’ to join our Board. Therefore, on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021, from 5:30-6:00 p.m. please join us at our zoom meeting. See details at the bottom of this article.

Who are we?

A group of volunteers who join with a small group of school district administrators to help make decisions to coordinate fundraising, collaborate on grants for teachers and their classrooms, and support our schools and children generally.

We are the foundation and our goal is to be the heart of support for our district’s children.

Why are we on the Foundation Board?

Some of us represent important support groups:

  • School museum

  • Sister Cities

  • Booster Club

  • Scholarship Foundation

  • Music

  • Alumni

Others are members at large who care about our children’s education and simply want to help us improve opportunities for our children and our educators.

What do we do?

We get together to collaborate with the above support groups for our district. We work collectively for education in order to maximize the resources available to our community. In the last year, we have raised money for classroom grants and raised money to support children and families affected by COVID to survive the crisis. To help with their needs the money has been used for food, for internet fees, and for other family supplies. Donated money to support learning given by other agencies has also flowed through our books

Our future strategic goals include building resources to help people leave a legacy to our foundation to provide lasting funds to support our children’s education. We also plan to create the opportunity for someone on staff to provide more permanent financial support through grant applications and accounting assistance.

We are a 501C(3) nonprofit organization, so we can issue donors with tax deduction certificates.

Where do we do it?

Usually, we meet at the North Wasco District Office, but currently, we meet on Zoom.

When do we do it?

We meet one evening a month from 6:00 – 7:15 p.m. Right now, we meet on Zoom. Once the Pandemic conditions are appropriately better, we will meet physically at the North Wasco County District Office.

ALL INTERESTED RESIDENTS ARE VERY WELCOME!
