The Dalles, Ore., April 23, 2026 — Members of The Dalles High School National Honor Society spent last Saturday morning, April 18, giving back to the community, completing their annual yard cleanup at St. Peter’s Landmark.
And just in time for Cherry Fest as thousands will gather in and around the iconic church during the parade and quilt show on Saturday, April 25.
Fifteen NHS students, joined by adviser Emily Campagna, a Spanish teacher at The Dalles High School, worked alongside volunteers to clear weeds and refresh the historic site ahead of the upcoming Cherry Festival. Campagna’s husband, Danny, a science teacher, and their children, Henry and Penelope, also participated.
By the end of the two-hour effort, the group had removed a pickup load of weeds and spread 47 bags of mulch across the grounds.
Additional volunteers included Bev and Alan Eagy, along with Landmark President Linda Miller.
The cleanup marks the 14th year of collaboration between the National Honor Society and the Landmark. The partnership began in 2013, when the project was first proposed as a way for students to support the historic site while preparing it for increased visitors during Cherry Festival.
Organizers said the annual effort not only helps maintain one of The Dalles’ most recognizable landmarks but also reinforces the National Honor Society’s commitment to community service.
