Happy last Monday of January!

It’s hard to believe we are entering the final month of the winter sports season here at The Dalles High School. Conference play is well underway for the Riverhawks in basketball, swimming, wrestling, and skiing, while our defending state champion cheer squad is preparing to defend their title in the coming weeks.

If you’re a basketball fan, this is the week to come out and support the Riverhawks, as we host games here in The Dalles on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and a rare Saturday five-pack of games!

Before we get into this week’s games and matches, let’s quickly review what happened in Riverhawks’ athletics this past week!

The Dalles High School Athletic Director Billy Brost

Odds and Ends:

-This past week, the Riverhawks’ athletic family lost Mr. John Fredrick. He began the season working his 50th year running scoreboards for various basketball programs, including the last several years in The Dalles. His impact on football, basketball, baseball, Riverhawks’ Boosters, a member of the media, and as a former school board member will never be forgotten. Mr. Fredrick was the epitome of the Riverhawk, and he cared deeply about our programs and our student-athletes. Our deepest condolences to the Fredrick Family, along with his loved ones and friends. Rest in Peace Mr. Fredrick.

-With the unexpected loss of Mr. Fredrick to Riverhawks’ athletics, we are looking for volunteers to step up and assist us in filling the operation of scoreboards for boys and girls JV and varsity basketball games. If you do not know how, that is okay; we can teach you! We simply need volunteers to help us continue running our games.

-Spring athletics registration is now open for sign-ups via Family ID. You can sign your student-athlete up for spring sports by clicking this link.

DISTRICT POLICY REGARDING INDOOR MASK MANDATES:

Concessions will not be operated at D21 facilities and events for the time being. Outside food and drink are NOT permitted in D21 athletic events and facilities for the time being.

Masking is required of ALL FANS AND VISITORS to D21 athletic facilities. This includes bench players, coaches, and event workers. The only personnel NOT required to wear masks during our events, are on-court, participating athletes and in-game officials.

Feel free to contact the athletic office if you have any questions.

That’s what’s coming up in Riverhawkland! I encourage you to come out and support our student-athletes, practice social distancing, be safe, stay warm, take your time on the roads, and as always, GO RIVERHAWKS!

-A.D. Brost
