Good morning and Happy Tuesday!

NFL Playoff football is well underway as we conclude Wild Card weekend, and college hoops begin heating up with an eye towards March Madness! Here in our neck of the woods, we just completed our first week back from an extended winter break, and thanks to snow and ice, we enjoyed a few extra days off to get Christmas decorations down, and to unwind from the holidays, as we push into 2022 hoping for a continued sense of renewal, and to cheer on our student-athletes of The Dalles High School!

Let’s get right into the week ahead, as events begin on Tuesday and run through the weekend!

Odds and Ends:

-A big shout out to Coach Cummings, and his program for hosting a wonderful youth basketball tournament this past weekend at Kurtz Gym and The Dalles Middle School. Many teams from The Dalles competed, and played for championships in their respective brackets over the weekend. Great job littles!

-The January Riverhawks’ Booster Club meeting is this Wednesday, January 19th at 6:30 pm via Zoom. Join the meeting and make your presence felt in Riverhawks’ athletics! Zoom link.

-A special thank you to Lisa Kaseberg, Kara Flath, Claire Cummings, and Scott Peters. Between transportation, facilities and our basketball officials’ organization, each of you have worked tirelessly with TDHS athletics to ensure our kids continue to have sports seasons this winter!

-It is important to keep in mind when we attend games and support our athletes, we are courteous hosts AND guests. Each school district has their own policies and procedures, but have the same goals as we have here in The Dalles: to keep our young people and visitors safe and a season continuing. Please follow house rules on the road and abide by and be respectful of host teams’ employees and workers.

-Finally, please remain patient as athletics are fluid right now not only here in The Dalles, but across the region. Games, competitions, and matches continue to be cancelled, postponed, and rescheduled. The department is doing its best to keep our social media accounts updated as changes to games and schedules are made.

DISTRICT POLICY REGARDING INDOOR MASK MANDATES:

During the months of August and early September, we saw a rapid increase of COVID-19 cases both locally and nationally.  At that time, we chose to take a more cautious route regarding masking for athletes indoors.  We stand by this decision as all of our fall teams have been able to compete without any cancelations or closures of conference and league athletic events.

Thankfully, we are starting to see cases decrease in this area and feel we can safely operate without requiring masks for our indoor athletes.  Currently, this will affect our basketball, wrestling, and cheer teams.  Coaches and fans will still be required to mask at all indoor events.  Hopefully, we continue to see cases drop as we move into the winter athletic season.

Concessions will not be operated at D21 facilities and events for the time being.

Outside food and drink are NOT permitted in D21 athletic events and facilities for the time being.

Feel free to contact the athletic office if you have any questions.

That’s what’s coming up in Riverhawkland! I encourage you to come out and support our student-athletes, practice social distancing, be safe, stay warm, take your time on the roads, and as always, GO RIVERHAWKS!
