By Xavier Orion Olaez

The Dalles Riverhawks basketball team played against cross-field rivals the Dufur Rangers on Wednesday, Dec 8th in The Dalles in what was a hard-fought game on both sides.

The Hawks went on to win 41-27.

The Dalles was coming off a big win from the night before against Parkrose.

Dufur was also coming off of a big win from four nights ago against Powder Valley.

So both teams were ready to battle it out and come away with another win.

It was a battle from the tip-off.

Both teams were playing some very tough defense with Dufur using a full-court press. It forced the Hawks to pass the ball multiple times before being able to even cross that half-court line.

The Hawks capitalized once making it across with some great ball movement and getting to the rim to score some tough baskets.

Dufur answered back with some points of their own and then caused several turnovers, forcing the Hawks foul.

It was tight.

The first quarter ended with the Hawks in front 10-7.

The Riverhawks owned the second quarter by dominating on both sides of the ball. Head coach Darcy Hodges returned the favor and implemented a full-court press defense and that cause a lot of trouble for the Rangers. Dufur scored four points in that second quarter while the Hawks put up 13.

Sophomore Keliani Crichton-Tunai shoots a three.

Coming out of halftime, both teams started off hot scoring buckets right away and battling it on defense. There were quite a few fouls on both sides and it was a very physical third quarter.

Both teams put up 8 points, but the Hawks still led 31-19. Freshman Despina Seufalemua hit some nice three-pointers to rally the Hawks and keep the lead.

The Rangers had no quit in them. They came out strong in the fourth quarter. They scored two quick buckets, making a bit of a comeback.

The Hawks then returned the volley with some buckets of their own through a lot of offensive rebounds leading to second-chance points. They held the Rangers off and won 41-27 in a hard-fought game on both sides.

Zoe Lebreton led the Hawks with 16 points.

This is the second straight win for the Hawks and next, they play away at South Albany on Friday, Dec. 10th.

The Dufur Rangers are 1-1 on the season and they are also on the road at Imbler on Friday, Dec. 10th.

The JV game between The Dalles and Dufur was a fun game to watch with both teams hitting some nice shots. The Dalles won 59-15.
