TD’s OG Brings The Cree Style: Round Dance and Pow Wow Musician performs Dec. 13
The Dalles, Ore., Dec. 11, 2024 — The newest arts and culture nonprofit in the Gorge is back at it.
Fresh off their late-October launch, The Dalles Overground has announced its second music event: “Sound Series: Balsamroot Edition”, featuring Charles Wood III, to be held on Friday, December 13 at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center (5000 Discovery Drive, The Dalles). Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 6:30pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Mr. Wood, a Walla Walla/Cree Native, is a composer, singer, and performer of Cree Style Round Dance and Pow Wow music. Thanks to a generous grant from the Wasco County Cultural Trust, Mr. Wood will also perform for the students of Chenowith Elementary School on the afternoon of December 13. The Chenowith program will also include a student performance by the Eagle Quest Drum Group.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with our friends at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center to host this unique event,” said The Dalles Overground Board Member, Kelsey Alsheimer. “We are also grateful to the Wasco County Cultural Trust for their support which provided the opportunity for Mr. Wood to perform for local students. The opportunity to collaborate with these respected community organizations and bring original, unique arts and culture to The Dalles is exactly why we started our nonprofit,” said Alsheimer.
Mr. Wood released his first Album titled "Honest to You" on October 11th, 2019. He was nominated and won the “Best Debut Artist” award at the 2022 Native American Music Awards held in Buffalo, New York. He is also a hand drum champion who performs across the United States and Canada and is known for his attractive melody and unique singing style.
