The Chronicle Building Nears Completion and Hoping for a June Opening

The Dalles, Oregon June 6, 2024 — The new owners of The Chronicle Building are nearing the completion of their remodeling efforts and are hopeful for a June opening said Bets Stelzer, one of the owners and the CEO of FarmStand, an organic and non-GMO food store and deli based in Hood River that is set to occupy a portion of the building.
"Our goal is a June opening if everything goes to plan," Stelzer said.
However, she noted that the opening date could change depending on soil test results following the recent removal of gas tanks from beneath the building.
The gas tanks, dating back to 1926 when the building originally served as a gas station, were recently removed. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the building owners are in the clear just yet.
"We just got the five tanks removed and tested the soil for contaminants. Hopefully, it will come back clean. If it doesn't, then we will have to get that cleaned out and have it retested," Stelzer explained.
Stelzer described the renovation process as akin to "pushing a boulder up a hill for two years," but expressed relief and optimism about reaching the final stages. Stelzer said that Farmstand is almost ready with its product setup and is looking forward to expanding from it’s Hood River location into The Dalles as soon as they get the all clear to open the new health and wellness hub.
