Community Lead "Clothesline Project" Raises Awareness About Sexual Assault

Helping Hands Against Violence in partnership SafeSpace Children’s Advocacy Center in the Gorge, and the Hood River County Library recently installed a unique public community art installation called the Clothesline Project to call attention to Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The installation will be on display on the Hood River Library lawn until April 17th.
The installation features a display of t-shirts designed by community members to raise awareness about sexual assault and domestic violence.
Art for the installation was made on April 3rd, when Helping Hands Against Violence and the Hood River Library hosted a T-shirt design event in the library conference room. Shirts and design materials were provided to those who attended, and participants were encouraged to create a T-shirt with a message that would raise awareness about violence against women.
The event was welcoming to community members of all ages and backgrounds coming together to create T-shirts that shared powerful messages of hope, support, and awareness. The T-shirts featured everything from bold slogans to intricate designs and were all unique and personal to their creators.
Once the T-shirts were completed, they were hung on the lawn as a part of the Clothesline Project, which now stands tall on the lawn of the Hood River Library. The installation features hundreds of T-shirts hanging on a clothesline, each one representing a message of hope, support, and awareness.
The display serves as a powerful reminder that we all have a part to play in creating a safer and more supportive community for everyone.
