The Dalles, Oregon — The Beautification & Tree Committee proudly honors Sharron Allen and Cameron Larson with the August Beautification Award for their outstanding garden at 412 West 2nd Place.

Allen and Larson shared, “We purchased our house in August 2016. The yard consisted of an apple tree and dead weeds. We knew that we didn’t want a traditional lawn, so the next spring we built a few raised beds and started vegetables from seed. Since then, we have added beds or redesigned the ones we have every year. Each year it is different, flowers have become more prominent, and somehow it keeps getting more varied, fuller, and maybe a little bit chaotic by late summer, but we love it.”

The City of The Dalles, Oregon, is situated in the north-central part of the state on the Columbia River, the nation's second largest river. It is the county seat and the largest community in Wasco County. The Dalles is one of Oregon's most historical cities and was known earlier in its history as the town at the end of the Oregon Trail. The city was first incorporated by the Oregon Territorial Government in 1857 as “Dalles City” and was made the county seat shortly thereafter.
