TD Parent Seeks a Community to Build Waldorf-Inspired Early Childhood Program

The Dalles, Ore., May 13, 2025 — When Beth Slowik couldn’t find the right early education fit for their one-and-a-half-year-old child, they decided to take action.

Beth Slowik

Slowik, a certified early childhood professional and full-time stay-at-home parent in The Dalles, has worked in diverse educational settings since 2005, including classrooms at Waldorf-inspired schools. Now, they’re looking to connect with other families who are also seeking a Waldorf-based education model in the Gorge.

“My family knows we want a Waldorf education for our child because Rudolf Steiner’s philosophies on life and education take a holistic approach to continuous organic growth in the child, their family, and the community,” Slowik said. “Waldorf schools are true expressions of unity.”

Waldorf education emphasizes small class sizes, a non-forced and organic approach to child development, and a strong rhythm rooted in nature, storytelling, and the arts. But currently, no such program exists in The Dalles.

Slowik is working to change that—and they’re looking for others to join them.

Are you a parent in The Dalles or greater Gorge area interested in Waldorf education? A certified Waldorf teacher or someone pursuing certification? Or simply someone who believes in fostering holistic, child-centered learning in the community?
