TD City Employees Honored for team play, service and innovation
The Dalles City Council recognized three employees on Monday, April 11th, for their commitment to the City and excellence in the performance of their duties. Their nominations were reviewed by the City Manager, Human Resources Director and Mayor Rich Mays.
The Mayor announced the awards and gave a statement about each employee on Monday.
Team Player
Izetta Grossman, City Clerk
Mays pointed out Grossman for her collaborative leadership and recognized the hard work she had recently done on updating the City’s website. He said Grossman had a “clear vision of citizen customer interface” and invited city staff to give input on the new website. Mays also noted her upbeat attitude in problem solving and said she went the extra mile with the ambitious website project. He also thanked her for overseeing recent renovations at City Hall. Excellent Customer Service
Police Officer Sam Perez
Perez was nominated by Police Chief Tom Worthy who stated Perez never hesitates to take on calls or assignment and had done excellent work interacting with the houseless population and assisted many in applying for and receiving identification to remove barriers to gaining shelter and work. Perez also passes on his skills to new officers . Perez is also well known in the Spanish-speaking community and handles a high number of calls to provide services to the citizens of The Dalles.
Innovative Thinker
Jill Hoyenga, Public Works Regulatory Compliance Manager.
Hoyenga was nominated by Eric Hanson Asst. Public Works Director.
Hanson said Hoyenga had taken on the additional tasks of creating a risk and resilience assessment and an emergency response plan, saving the city the $50,000 that an outside contractor would have charged. Hoyenga has also taken on the local limits program and mercury minimization plan. She is described as a multitasker with excellent communication skills, especially in regard to communication with customers on in the industrial pre-treatment program. She is also adept at maintaining regulatory compliance for the city and has recently contributed updates to the City’s website for retaining records.
