Mark your calendars! The community is invited to celebrate the City of Bingen’s centennial on Saturday, April 13.  That's right, it's time to say Happy 100th Birthday to Bingen! 

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and it’s an important reminder to drivers everywhere that they should practice safe driving habits at all times.

When Alex was 12, he made a mistake that would change his life forever. Convicted of a crime, he was sentenced to three years at a youth correctional facility hundreds of miles from his home where he felt lost, alone, and afraid. However, fate had a different plan in store for Alex.

Women are finding their strides in the ultra-running world these days. What, with Camille Heron smashing 12 world distance records at Lululemon’s Further, Jasmin Paris finishing as the first female ever to complete the Barkley Marathon, and Courtney Dauwalter stunning the world with her Triple Crown wins of Hardrock Hundred, Western States Endurance Run, and the Ultra- Trail du Mont Blanc.

The Dalles City Council recognized three employees on Monday, April 11th, for their commitment to the City and excellence in the performance of their duties. Their nominations were reviewed by the City Manager, Human Resources Director and Mayor Richard Mays. Find out more here.

Tough Enough? Mike Omeg said neither he nor any of his workmates can remember a snow when cherry trees were in blossom in the past 50 years. Local cherry trees hit with snow during the blooming season avoided freezing temperatures. Omeg said that bodes well for this summer’s crop. But it’s a long road to June.

Council will hear about or consider items that total more than $1.9 million tonight, April 11th, at their regular meeting. The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce’s budget, a new contract for future City Manager Mathew Klebes, and money requests from Parks and Rec. as well as Mid-Columbia Community Action Council are in the mix.

The “Organ Crawl” featuring five historic pipe organs in The Dalles happens every other year, and 2021 is the year. Only this time the local tradition will be presented virtually.
