The Dalles, Ore., July 11, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library has scheduled a full week of programs July 13-18, including Medicare education, family entertainment, author talks, crafts, dance, yoga and LibraryCon.

Medicare 101
5 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 13, Meeting Room
Adults can learn the basics of Medicare during a one-hour seminar led by Laurie Bagley, who is licensed in Oregon, Washington and California to sell Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplemental Insurance. The program is intended for people new to Medicare or those looking for additional support.

John Stevens: Magical Entertainer
10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, Children’s Wing
Magician and family entertainer John W. Stevens will bring a morning of magic, laughter and family-friendly fun to the library. The program is open to all ages.

Virtual Author Talk: Karin Slaughter
4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, virtual
Bestselling author Karin Slaughter will discuss her North Falls series, including We Are All Guilty Here and the upcoming sequel, The Secrets We Hide. Registration is required for the virtual event.

Playdough Storytime
10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday, July 16, Children’s Wing
Preschoolers and their caregivers can explore early literacy through stories, songs and hands-on playdough activities. Materials are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Virtual Author Talk: Reyna Grande
11 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 16, virtual
Award-winning author Reyna Grande will discuss her memoir Migrant Heart: Essays About Things I Can’t Forget and the role of storytelling in survival, memory and healing. Registration is required.

Library Scouts: I Survived Completion Badge
1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 16, Children’s Wing
Children ages 8 to 12 can take part in Library Scouts, a hands-on program that builds confidence, creativity and real-world skills through outdoor exploration, community activities and STEAM learning. Registration is required.

Family Craft Night: Tie-Dye
6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, Main Library
Families can gather for a tie-dye craft night. A limited number of T-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with bandanas also provided while supplies last. Children must attend with an adult.

Way of the River: Pacific Lamprey and Tribal Stewardship
2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, Main Library
Kaitlynn Spino, a fisheries technician with the Pacific Lamprey team at the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, will lead a program on Pacific lamprey, their ecological role and their cultural and spiritual importance to Columbia River Plateau Tribes.

Fun Fridays: Build Your Own Ice Cream Sundae
3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, Children’s Wing
Elementary school-aged children can take part in a fun summer activity and build their own ice cream sundaes. The program is intended for children ages 5 to 10, though all are welcome.

Clogging with Becky Huskey
5 to 6:15 p.m. Friday, July 17, Meeting Room
Teens and adults can join Becky Huskey for a clogging dance class. The series teaches the basics of the rhythmic folk dance in a welcoming setting. No experience is needed. Registration is required.

VinYin and Violin
9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, library lawn
Adults can start the day with yoga and live violin music under the library’s sycamore tree. Yoga instructor Shannon RedCloud and violinist Jeremy Clawson will lead the program.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 18, The Dalles Public Library
The library’s annual fan convention returns with activities throughout the day, including a cosplay contest, crafts, a seek-and-find room and a fan-art gallery. The event is open to all ages.

Take & Make Embroidery with Steph Evans
Saturday, July 18, while supplies last
Teens and adults can pick up a take-and-make embroidery kit featuring “Dandelion Clock” as part of the “Plant a Seed, Read” theme. Kits are available while supplies last.
