The Dalles, Ore., July 26, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library has a full lineup of free programs for adults, children, teens and families during the final week of July and the start of August. Registration is required for select events.

Tuesday, July 28

Virtual author talk explores the science of friendship
11 a.m. to noon
Join psychologist and bestselling author Dr. Marisa Franco for a free virtual presentation on building and maintaining meaningful friendships. Franco, author of Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make — and Keep — Friends, will discuss how attachment styles influence relationships and share research-based strategies for creating stronger social connections. Registration is required.

Wednesday, July 29

VR Gaming
2-4 p.m.
Teens ages 10 and older are invited to enjoy virtual reality gaming in the Teen Room. The program is offered every Wednesday during July.

Story Time at The Dalles Art Center
4-5 p.m.
Preschoolers and their caregivers are invited for stories at The Dalles Art Center. Children must be accompanied by an engaged adult. Drop-offs are not permitted.

Ceramics – Session 2
4-7 p.m.
School-age children, teens and adults can participate in the library's second ceramics session.

Thursday, July 30

Family Lego Pizza Night
5:30-7 p.m.
Families are invited to build with Lego bricks while enjoying pizza during this monthly event. The program is open to all ages. Food is provided while supplies last.

Friday, July 31

Fun Friday: STEM Hub Visit
3:30-4:30 p.m.
Elementary-age children are invited for an afternoon of hands-on STEM activities. Weekly Fun Friday programs feature a variety of games, crafts, robotics and other educational activities. While designed for children ages 5-10, everyone is welcome.

Throughout August

Piece by Piece Puzzle Program
Aug. 1-31 | During library hours
Visitors of all ages are invited to help complete community jigsaw puzzles throughout the month. Participants may spend a few minutes or several hours adding pieces in this relaxed, drop-in activity located in the main library.

Saturday, Aug. 1

Seed Take & Make
All day
Stop by the library to pick up a free seed packet while supplies last. Packets include seeds for home gardens or containers. Available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Saturday Jewelry Studio
10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Teens and adults can use the Makerspace's jewelry-making tools and supplies while working on personal projects.

Cowboy Buck's Wild Wacky West Show
10:30-11:30 a.m.
Families are invited to enjoy an interactive western-themed performance featuring music, comedy and audience participation. Guests are encouraged to wear western attire for an all-ages costume contest with prizes.

VR Gaming
1-3 p.m.
Teens ages 10 and older can enjoy virtual reality gaming. Space and equipment are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Open Makerspace
2-4:30 p.m.
Teens and adults are invited to explore arts, crafts and STEAM activities using equipment and supplies available in the library's Makerspace.
