The Dalles, Ore., May 17, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library has several programs scheduled May 18-23, including family activities, teen programs, adult workshops and hands-on learning for children.
The Tween Librarian Team applications
All day May 18-23, The Dalles Public Library
Children ages 7 to 11 can apply to join the Tween Librarian Team. Participants will adopt and decorate a shelf, showcase favorite books and movies, attend a private party and learn how to search for books in the library. Applications open May 18 and close May 23. Registration is required. The team party and shelf adoption event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. June 6.
The Floor is Lava Family Fun Night
6 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 18, Children’s Wing
Families are invited to mark the anniversary of the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption with games, crafts and a volcanic eruption activity.
Virtual author talk with Nir Eyal
11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, May 19, virtual event
Adults can register for a virtual talk with bestselling author Nir Eyal, who will discuss his book “Beyond Belief” and the role beliefs play in attention, confidence and personal potential. Registration is required.
Little Learners Lab: Kids in STEAM
11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, Children’s Wing
Toddlers and preschoolers can take part in a hands-on, play-based STEAM program with building, discovery and creative activities. Children must attend with an accompanying adult.
Pokémon GO! Club
4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, The Dalles Public Library
Pokémon fans will meet in front of the library for a downtown walk, challenges, egg hatching, routes and raid battles. The walk leaves at 4:10 p.m. Registration and signed waivers are required. Participants 11 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
New Release Movie Matinee
4 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, The Dalles Public Library
The library will host its monthly family-friendly movie matinee featuring a new release about a goat who dreams of becoming a great roarball player.
Dream Study Group: Gifts from Our Subconscious
5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, Meeting Room
Instructor Nancy Turner will lead a discussion group exploring dreams as symbolic messages from the subconscious. No materials or prior experience are needed. Registration is required, and registration for the first session includes future sessions in the series.
Money Moves: A Financial Literacy Workshop for Teens

Teens can learn practical financial skills, including budgeting, saving, spending wisely, buying a first car, paying for college or trade school and planning for independent living.
Acrylic Painting with Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield
6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, Meeting Room
Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield will introduce teens and adults to acrylic painting. Registration is required.
Family Craft Night: Decorate Caps and Sunglasses
6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, Main Library
Families can decorate baseball caps and sunglasses during the library’s monthly craft night. Children must attend with an accompanying adult.
Fun Fridays for Teens: Jeopardy! With Prizes

Teens can test their knowledge of pop culture, science, math and other topics during a Jeopardy-style game with prizes.
Fun Fridays: Lemonade and Chalk Paint

Elementary-age children can take part in a weekly activity program featuring crafts, games, art and other hands-on projects. The program is intended for ages 5 to 10, but all are welcome.
Rock Collection: Take & Make Kit
All day Saturday, May 23, The Dalles Public Library
Visitors can pick up a rock sample and mini fact sheet to add to their collection. Materials are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Family Preparedness Workshop Series: Preschool Session One
10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, May 23, Main Library
Preschool children will learn basic safety skills through hands-on activities covering fire safety, earthquake awareness and personal safety. The session includes a practice fire drill and “stop, drop and roll.” Registration is required.
Share & Show: Hike Smart with CragRats Mountain Rescue
1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, Children’s Wing
Families can learn what mountain rescuers carry on the trail during a hands-on program with CragRats Mountain Rescue. Children will explore hiking gear, make walking sticks and take a short neighborhood walk. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the walk.
