Tony Furtado Trio at TD Arts Center Gallery

The Dalles Art Center presents Live at The Carnegie, featuring the Tony Furtado Trio, on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.

Tony Furtado is an acclaimed folk and roots musician who has recorded 20 albums under his own name as well as played with the likes of Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, Tim O’Brien, and Kelly Joe Phelps. He has recently revived his skills as a sculpture artist, too.

“Tony is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumental-ist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the flair of a master chef, according to this website. All of the music of America is in Tony’s music. Relix hit the nail on the head when writing of Tony: “True talent doesn’t need categories.”

“Grace M. Cho grew up as the daughter of a white American merchant marine and the Korean bar hostess he met abroad. They were one of few immigrants in a xenophobic small town during the Cold War, where identity was politicized by everyday details—language, cultural references, memories, and food. When Grace was fifteen, her dynamic mother experienced the onset of schizophrenia, a condition that would continue and evolve for the rest of her life.”
