I wish all our Columbia Community Connection Readers a Merry Christmas as we head into the last two weeks of 2021. Of course, I’ll be ending the year with a Standard to-do list: 

1) Send Christmas Packages Back East; 

2) Put Up Salvaged Artificial Christmas Tree and Hope that All the Lights Work; 

3) Wake Up In Time for Upcoming Booster Shot Appointment.

The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association sends a Digital Streaming Christmas Card in the way of a rebroadcast of last year’s Holiday Spectacular, available online starting Dec. 17. The Stay at Home Music Spectacular features singer Bre Gregg, The Hood River String Quartet, The Texacana Mamas, Tony Smiley (pictured), Canticum, Erick Haynie, Tim Mayer, The Sinfonietta Strings, a Harp Duet, a Trombone Trio, Gorge Acapella Lady Singers, Donna Reuter and Diane Allen, the Hapa Hillbillies (with Must See to Believe Pandemic TV), the Harty Family, performances from singer-songwriter Sam Baker, and a Sing-Along with VOCI. This 1.5 hour Spectacular would make a Perfect Streaming Update to the Traditional Yule Log Slideshow. The link is up until the end of the year. Happy Holidays!

In a Completely Unplanned Twice Mentioned in One Column Occurrence, the Hapa Hillbillies return to the stage for an Annual #@%$ Christmas Concert - An Evening of Irreverant Holiday Music from “Hood River’s Trashiest Musicians.” You’ve Been Warned. Monday, Dec. 20, at The Ruins in Hood River, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Hood River’s River City Saloon hosts a New Year’s Eve Party with DJ Budget Money. Expect a night of Old School mixed with current Hip Hop. Party starts at 9 p.m.

Art Center Happenings

The Dalles Art Center features treasures from local artists as their Holiday Show continues through Dec. 31. The Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River presents the Small Works Market through Dec. 23. 

White Salmon Community Solstice Walk and Carol Sing

Join in a Community Solstice walk on Monday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. at Rheingarten Park, in White Salmon. Expect a “quiet, contemplative walk, giving you a chance to pause in the hectic holiday season.” Organizers ask that you bring a lantern, or a candle, rather than flashlights. Hosted by Columbia Gorge Peace Village and Bethel Church. 

Cowboy Buck and Elizabeth

Seasoned NW performers Cowboy Buck and Elizabeth make a special Holiday Concert appearance at The Dalles Library on Tuesday, Dec. 21. Two Shows: Family Matinee, 1 p.m.; Evening show, 6 p.m. “For 30 years Buck has been pursuing his passion in Education Through Entertainment and continues to engage with audiences around the world.” His website mentions he was a manager and singer in the folk band New Christy Minstrels.
