Turkey Trot draws 350-plus participants, raises more than $17,000 for Gorge food bank

The Dalles, Ore., Nov. 27, 2025 — A surge of more than 350 runners, walkers, and families filled Lewis & Clark Park on Thanksgiving morning for the annual Turkey Trot, a community tradition that raised more than $17,000 this year for the Columbia Gorge Food Bank.

Despite the cold, participants packed tightly under tents and around the starting arch before the 5K run and 1-mile walk began. Children in jackets, costumed runners, stroller-pushing parents, and even a few dogs joined the event, which benefits hunger-relief efforts in Wasco, Hood River, and Sherman counties.

Columbia Gorge Toyota served as the presenting sponsor. Co-owner Rachel Carter said the business matched up to $5,000 in donations to help boost support for local nonprofits. “Everything we get for donations will go 100% to non-profits, and they also matched up to $5000,” Carter said. “We also had over 350 people show up for the event. It’s a community tradition that we have really grown to enjoy and something fun for families to look forward for each year to add to their Thanksgiving fun.”

The turnout also drew several local businesses offering drinks, treats, and support, including Dutch Bros and La Golosa Postres y Mas. Long lines formed around vendor tents as participants warmed up with hot drinks and waited for results.

Columbia Gorge Food Bank, this year’s beneficiary, supports food-access programs across the Mid-Columbia. Organizers said Turkey Trot proceeds help supply food during one of the highest-need times of the year.
