Two I-84 crashes bring injuries, overturned camper and tow trucks
The Dalles, Ore., Oct. 2, 2026 — Oregon State Police responded to two crashes involving injuries on Oct. 1 — one on Interstate 84 near Arlington and another on Highway 35 near Odell — according to OSP logs.
The first crash occurred at about 12:06 p.m. near milepost 128 on I-84 westbound in Gilliam County, according to the log.
OSP said a 2017 Ram 1500 was towing a 22-foot camper when the driver lost control and the truck overturned, blocking all westbound lanes. The driver, Manuel Lawrence Mendoza, 76, of College Place, Washington, was transported by medics from the North Gilliam County Fire Department to Adventist Medical Center in The Dalles.

Simcoe Towing responded for the Ram, while Purdy's Towing was dispatched for the camper. OSP said no citations were issued as a result of the crash. The blocked road backed up traffic for about approximately two miles according to the Gilliam County Sheriff's Office.
Oregon Department of Transportation assisted in safely removing the damaged trailer and vehicle.

Later that evening, at about 9:18 p.m., OSP and Hood River County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 282 near Odell, according to the OSP log.
A black Subaru WRX was traveling south on Highway 35 when it approached Odell and turned, failing to yield the right of way to a Honda CR-V, according to the log.
Hood River Fire and EMS transported two people by ground ambulance to Hood River, according to OSP. The drivers were identified as Alberto Giles, 44, of Hood River, and Maria Huerta-Renteria, 29, of Parkdale. Emma Giles, 41, of Hood River, was listed as a passenger.
The driver of the Subaru was cited for failing to yield the right of way at an uncontrolled intersection, OSP said.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Rivers Edge Towing.
