Volunteers Needed to Create Spooky Magic at White Salmon Haunted House & Fun Zone

Volunteers Needed to Create Spooky Magic at White Salmon Haunted House & Fun Zone

From Mt Adams Chamber of Commerce:

By Tammara Tippel

Our annual Haunted House morphs a bit every year.  Being able to separate the downstairs scary stuff and have the upstairs available as options for light and cute fun is one recent addition. Upstairs the WS Mason Lodge will be stationed amongst decorations, and somewhat depends upon who wants to participate in this on Halloween. Our County Rodeo Queen Raina is going to be there signing autographs and a photo booth. The Rotary Club is going to have representation. The Lions Club indicated interest. There is plenty of space. We just need help in getting the word out about this. Everyone is welcome!

This year, several key volunteers will be out of town on Halloween. This means we MUST have some new people step up to help us make this happen.

PLEASE HAVE VOLUNTEERS CONTACT ME TO GET ON THE LIST.   509-493-3630

I will track who is able to do what and when on a Google doc. This will determine when we open the Lodge to get progress made.

Thank you to the Mason Lodge for providing use of their historic building to the community as an anchor of the Halloween festivities in White Salmon.

We begin by transferring the decorations from the cargo pod/storage shed, located in the upper lot behind the Lodge. This is best done with an assembly line of helpers. There are A LOT of boxes!  We walk them into upstairs or load a trailer and drive them to the lower level front door to unload.

We begin by setting up the framework downstairs with pop-up canopies. Huge sheets of black plastic are then hung to create a tunnel and flow.  THIS TAKES AT LEAST 5-6 people.

Then, "sets" or "scenes" are created. They are micro in size and will vary with the 'actors' we have to be in each space.  THIS CAN BE TIME INTENSIVE and I MUST HAVE HELP!!!

To make them look good requires thoughtfulness and attention to detail. We DO have MANY props but always welcome (and need) any you can loan us. Room dividers and things to make small walls, like dressers will be needed.

Stuffing clothes to make zombies, scarecrows, and monsters takes more time than you might think but can be done at your home.

The Mason Lodge is available to us on Tuesday 10/17. WEATHER will dictate when we begin unpacking decorations and moving them.

We can then determine a schedule of times that we can be there to get things done between that point and Halloween. It is very nice to have this extra time and not be fully rushing to get it all up in two days.

White Salmon Haunted House & Fun Zone – Volunteers Needed! Inviting local nonprofits or business groups to participate.

We need volunteers to lend their hands and help put up the Haunted House layout and décor at the White Salmon Masonic Lodge on Jewett beginning potentially Tuesday 10/17  through Monday 10/30 from noon to 6 pm (start date will be weather dependent)

Set building is not hard, but requires extra hands and time to pull it together. We have many items, but WELCOME a loan of your décor or items.

If you would like to be a part of the actual Haunted House, that is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Halloween. MUST pre-register! We will want to know what you will wear and determine your station.

We need people for props, guides, and door greeters. We can help with your costume if needed.

The upstairs is the non-scary, fun zone. We seek people to provide fun and simple activities for the kids. Or hand out candy. In 2022, there were over 1300 visits. (some repeats)

Specifically seeking a Fortune Teller, Witches, Crazy Scientist, Zombies/Skeleton, Weird, and Wacky Whatever.... we will find a place for you.

We need these performers to be at the Haunted House by 4 pm on Halloween and they are done at 7 pm.

To be a performer, you MUST PRE-REGISTER with the committee by signing up through the Chamber.

Anyone who can stay after closing to help with some of the tear-downs is appreciated.

Packing it up on Wednesday morning 11/1 will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the intent to be completed by noon.

Any questions? Please call the Mt Adams Chamber at 509-493-3630
