Wasco County Commissioners Approve YouthThink Social Media Outreach Contract

The Dalles, OR July 6, 2023– Wasco County Commissioners held their regular meeting on July 5th, 2023. Commissioners made decisions regarding drug prevention outreach, Secure Rural Schools (SRS) funding, and adopted the Wasco County Transit Development Plan.
Commissioners approved the Overdose Prevention Subcontract between North Central Public Health District and Wasco County and the YouthThink Social Media/Parenting Outreach Contract. The overdose prevention contract will allow for distribution of life saving naloxone to at risk populations while the later will allow YouthThink to hire someone to manage their social media. YouthThink currently has a Facebook and Instagram.
Facebook is notoriously underutilized by younger generations however. YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat are the most popular social networks among Gen Z and increasingly older generations as well. However, it seems unlikely at this point that YouthThink will be making the move to other platforms. Debby Jones, of YouthThink shared that YouthThink’s board had decided not to use TikTok or Snapchat due to concerns about those platforms.
Commissioners also designated Columbia Gorge News as the paper of record in which to publish the 2023 foreclosure list, discussed issues surrounding Secure Rural Schools 2023 funding totaling more than $350,000, and heard a presentation on the Wasco County Transit Development Plan.
