What's Your Personal Yin and Yang Look Like?
By Cole Goodwin
The Dalles Ore., Feb. 14, 2024 — Bob Shonbrun led a yin-yang art project in the Maker Space at The Dalles Wasco County Library on Tuesday, Feb 13, 2024. Participants learned how to find the exact center of a circle and create a perfect yin and yang shape on a circular wood cutting.
The yin and yang is a symbol of perfect balance between masculine and feminine, light and dark and the little bit of light and dark that exists within each. It also symbolizes the harmony between heaven and earth and the way in which seemingly opposing forces complete and harmonize each other perfectly.
Participants were encouraged to use paint pens to create “their personal yin and yang” by adding their flair and design to the project.
Participants also engaged in socializing.
The Dalles Library’s arts and crafts programs are a popular space for people to engage self expression, and parallel play. The smaller activities especially give community members a chance to socialize in a safe, fun, and low-stress environment post-COVID.
“We’re bonding,” said Shonbrun.
”Is that what we’re doing?” prodded one participant jokingly.
”We’re sharing life together,” said another participant.
Snacks were provided.
