Winter is Back: Winter Storm Warning Issued for the Columbia River Gorge

The Dalles, Ore., Feb. 14, 2024 —The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Columbia River Gorge including the cities of The Dalles, Dufur, Maupin, Hood River, White Salmon, Underwood, Stevenson, Carson, Corbett, and Cascade Locks.
The warning remains in effect from 8 a.m. on February 14 until 10 p.m. on Thursday the 15th.
Meteorologists have forecasted heavy snow, with total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches expected at river level, with 8 to 16 inches above 500 feet. As well as Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
The public is advised that travel could be very difficult, even along Interstate 84 and Washington SR-14. The combination of heavy snow and gusty winds may lead to whiteout conditions at times. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and cause localized power outages. The hazardous conditions could impact the commutes on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
NOAA recommends that if you must travel, you keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect for the Simcoe Highlands, including the cities of Goldendale and Bickleton from 10 a.m. Feb. 14 to 4 p.m. on Friday.
Meteorologists expect total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches which could impact travel. Satus Pass could see snow accumulations up to 8 inches.
