White Salmon-Bingen Rotary Club Golf Tournament draws 72 players
By Laura Williams Helmer
The Rotary Club of White Salmon-Bingen held its 29th annual Leon Berry Golf Tournament on Sunday, September 26th at Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River. Berry, a former club Rotarian, was a well-known community promoter and published the Mt. Adam’s Sun in Bingen when the population there was around 500 according to his grandsons who attended the golf tournament.
As this event had to be postponed last year due to the pandemic, this year's event drew 72 players and 18 teams all excited to hit the course. It was easily the most players in the last ten years. This year's winning team members were Chris Dierickx, Bobby Holley, Todd Berner and Kevin Boyle.
Net proceeds go to the White Salmon-Bingen Rotary Club's Foundation. The club is involved in both local and international projects to improve the lives of people and promote peace around the world.
Literacy projects, Rotary Youth Exchange programs, community youth center projects, clothing and gifts for local children in need, food stability, Annual Community Cleanup, tree plantings, road cleanup, improvements to the new Domestic Violence Shelter in Klickitat County, projects that provide basic necessities such as water to children in Uganda, projects that empower young women in Kenya and Guatemala, our creative members keep the list growing and changing to fit the needs we are presented with. For more information, please email rotary.club.323@gmail.com or visit http://www.whitesalmon-bingenrotary.org/.
