Wilcox gets luck of the draw; grandson may soon be sporting new wheels

The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 13, 2023 - Mike Kilkenny is a master of surprises.
A member of the Dalles Lions, he was part of the crew that started at Sorosis Park at 5:30 a.m. to organize the Show in the Shade car show on Saturday, Aug. 12.
Jim
Fellow Lion, Jim Wilcox was also there, and he bought four raffle tickets to win a 1984 Dodge Rampage that was donated by Mike Erland. It was a fundraiser for the Lions.
Nice thing.
But Wilcox was not able to be there for the drawing, and he trustingly handed his tickets to Kilkenny who would be there for the drawing on Saturday afternoon.
Kilkenny said when the number was drawn, no one spoke up. This went on for a minute or two until he remembered he had Wilcox’s tickets in his pocket.
Killkenny said it occurred to him just before they drew another number to take a look.
Lo and behold, Wilcox who had bought four $5 tickets had the winning number.
Kilkenny said Wilcox intended to give the car to his son and grandson who was in need of some wheels.
It was estimated that some 80 tickets were sold bringing in $400 for the fundraiser.
