Yakima man arrested after high-speed pursuit on I-84 leads to large Cocaine seizure
The Dalles, Ore., June 13, 2025 — A 29-year-old Yakima, Wash., man was arrested Wednesday, June 11, after attempting to flee a traffic stop on Interstate 84, prompting a brief pursuit and the discovery of half a pound of cocaine.
Oregon State Police said Trooper Michael Holloran attempted to stop two vehicles allegedly speeding and racing near milepost 51 westbound around 11:48 a.m. One vehicle pulled over, and the driver, later identified as Daniel M. Ramirez, reportedly handed the trooper imported hash oil. A Hood River County sheriff’s deputy who responded to assist reported that Ramirez admitted to recent marijuana use.
Moments later, Ramirez fled the scene in his Infinity Q50. The trooper pursued briefly before discontinuing the chase for safety reasons.
An OSP lieutenant later located Ramirez exiting the freeway and detained him. Oregon Department of Transportation crews, monitoring radio communications, helped recover approximately half a pound of cocaine that had reportedly fallen from the vehicle during the initial stop.
Ramirez was lodged at the county jail on charges of attempting to elude police, import/export of marijuana items, and possession and delivery of cocaine. He was also cited for speeding 97 mph in a 65 mph zone, driving while suspended, and driving without insurance.
The vehicle was towed by River’s Edge Towing.
