Dog River Pet Supplies Volunteers Transform Local Animal Shelter in a Heartfelt Act of Service
The Dalles, Ore., June 13, 2025 — On one of the hottest days of the year, the compassionate team from Dog River Pet Supplies in Hood River, Oregon, made an extraordinary decision: they closed their store to give back to the community in a big way.
Volunteering their time, labor, and hearts, the entire Dog River team showed up at Columbia River Humane Society in The Dalles with paintbrushes in hand, ready to brighten our shelter—literally and figuratively. Thanks to their efforts, every inch of our shelter received a much-needed fresh coat of paint. Their kindness didn’t stop with the paint—they brought energy, joy, and a deep commitment to animal welfare with them.
This act of generosity was not only selfless but also symbolic. Dog River Pet Supplies has long been a supporter of the animal community, and their decision to put business on pause for a day of hands-on service speaks volumes about their values.
We are incredibly grateful to the owners and staff of Dog River for their time, labor, and unwavering support. Your efforts have created a cleaner, more welcoming space for the animals in our care—and a more hopeful place for the people who come to adopt them.
From all of us at Columbia River Humane Society: Thank you, Dog River Pet Supplies. You’ve painted more than just walls—you’ve painted hope into our hearts.
