Underground Music Therapy will provide youth with instruments and professional instruction, giving them a chance to connect with others and ground themselves through music. Lessons will be adapted for each youth and include therapeutic-based goals tailored to their strengths, learning style, and unique needs.

The Next Door’s Youth Drop-In Center is now open at its location in The Dalles at 1113 Kelly Avenue. What started as an idea to help young people in the Gorge who are experiencing or are at risk of houselessness, or who just don’t feel safe at home, has become a beautiful and hope-filled reality.

Because of thoughtful and caring people like you, The Next Door’s year-end fundraising campaign had its most successful year yet, surpassing the $200,000 goal and raising over $217,000 to support The Next Door’s many programs!

Izzy was way behind on his credits when he and the YOW started meeting every day after school. During one of these sessions, Izzy opened up and broke down crying. “I just want to make my parents proud and graduate,” he said.

Gorge Youth Mentoring (GYM), a program of The Next Door, announces its summer-time virtual fundraiser: GYM Gets You Moving! First, choose your adventure: walk, run, bike, or some combination of all three. Register for the event, create your online profile and choose how many miles you’ll complete before August 5th. Adult registration is $50, kids ages 5-17 are $25.

Back in 1971, The Next Door was established in direct response to a community need. At that time, the organization served teen boys who were slipping through the cracks; those in trouble with the law, not attending school, and in need of counseling, education, and, most of all, love.

When she was just seven years old, Jayson asked Josie if she wanted to play a bigger role in their family’s giving to a local homeless shelter. Josie jumped at the chance, though she wasn’t exactly sure what he meant at that point.

The Columbia Gorge Pride Alliance and The Next Door are looking for 10 LGBTQIA+ youth to sit on a LGBTQIA+ youth council in Hood River and Wasco Counties.
