Obituary: Lee Roy Herman

Lee Roy Herman

Longtime Mosier resident Lee Roy Herman passed away at The Dalles Health and Rehab, in the presence of family on Monday July 6, 2020 at the age of 84.  Lee Roy was the youngest of eight children, with five brothers and two sisters, born to Thomas Franklin Herman and Fannie Magnolia “Maggie” Partin Herman.  

He was just a young boy when his family moved from Antlers, Oklahoma to Oregon where they settled in Mosier.  Lee Roy attended Mosier Valley School and lettered in basketball, football and track.  He also participated in student government, dramatics and choir, graduating in 1954.  He maintained many lifelong friends from his school days.

Lee Roy married Nola Short May 24, 1957.  The couple had three handsome boys; Rick, Tim and Troy Herman.  They later divorced in 1971 and he married his second wife, Elizabeth Jane Wonsyld, of Hood River May 16, 1973.  With this marriage, he gained a stepdaughter Shelley, whom he treated as his own daughter.  

He took great pride in raising his children and made many great memories on camping trips, and fishing and hunting outings with his boys.  Lee Roy worked as a milkman for Mayflower, later known as Darigold, and retired after 42 years of employment.  He truly enjoyed his job and developed many friendships though his time there.  In retirement, Lee Roy went on to start Herman’s Lawn Care Maintenance with his son Tim and he kept the business going for many years into his retirement.  

He was a spirited man, loved by many, hated by none and some will probably say he was one lucky son of a gun!  Lee Roy would help anyone in need.  He had many titles during his lifetime; horse trainer, milkman, fireman, first responder, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and good friend.  He loved the sports of hunting and fishing and always welcomed a trip for either.  He had a lucky hand at the casino and always a place with Jane at a friend’s card table.  He loved all of his family and often stood in as a father figure for his nieces and nephews after his brothers had passed on.  

Lee Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Elizabeth Jane Herman; son Troy Herman; his parents Frank and Maggie Herman and siblings JC, Jay, Artley "Slick“, Hugh, Neoma, Gerald and Elaine.  He is survived by his sons Rick and Tim Herman (wife Renee); step daughter Shelley Prentice (husband Rick); grandchildren Rachel Klapprich, Timmy Herman, James Alwine, Chris Barber, Clinton Herman, Nicole Phelps, Jessica Clinton, Emelia Gove, Mariah VeraCruz, Ashley Alexander, and Samantha Howrey,; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who truly adored him and thought of him as a father and grandfather.

A viewing will be held from 4pm-7pm Thursday July 23, 2020 and from 9am – 11:30am on Friday July 24, 2020 at Anderson’s Tribute Center.  A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Friday July 24, 2020 at Idlewilde Cemetery (980 Tucker Road Hood River, OR 9731).   

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mosier Fire Department, the Mosier Grange or Providence Hospice of the Gorge (C/O Anderson’s Tribute Center – Celilo Chapel 204 E. 4th Street The Dalles, OR 97058).

Obituary: Nelson Ray Martin

Nelson Ray Martin died in a motorcycle accident on July 15, 2020 near Rowena, Oregon.  Nelson was born on December 2, 1977 in Hood River, Oregon and was 42 years of age at the time of his death. 

His untimely death leaves much heartache; there are two services that all are invited to be a part of. A gathering is planned from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 24th at Anderson’s Tribute Center (1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031). During this gathering family and friends will have the opportunity to write a special note, paste special picture or place a memento on Nelson’s casket which will be cremated with him.  if you are unable to be present for Nelson’s gathering and would like to have your note or picture placed with Nelson you can email it to; ATC@gorge.net  *we would need prior to 4pm on Friday*

A Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25th at Anderson’s Tribute Center (1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031).  Graveside Rites & urn committal will immediately follow at Idlewilde Cemetery. 

Being mindful of the COVID pandemic and State of Oregon executive orders only 50 attendees are allowed indoors and 100 attendees outdoors social distanced with face coverings  -  all of Nelson’s services will be shared via Anderson’s Facebook Live page.

Obituary: John Curtiss Fulton

John Curtiss Fulton

John Curtiss Fulton passed away June 21, 2020 at the age of 79.  John was born June 5, 1941 to Gard and Maxine (Kortge) Fulton in The Dalles Oregon.  He had four daughters with Glenda Alexander Fulton and in 1988 married Ruth Tibbets, his childhood sweetheart.

In his lifetime John was a family man, farmer, friend, cowboy and pilot.  He formed many lifelong relationships.

Later in life he attended Gateway Presbyterian Church renewing and forming friendships.  John loved flying, always taking pictures which he shared with many.  He kept a watch on the happenings and was referred to as the “Eye In The Sky”.  John also rode his motorcycles traveling to Alaska and dipped his toes in the Arctic Ocean.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Gard and Maxine, his uncle, World War II Pilot Captain Robert C. Fulton, his cousin, Vietnam Pilot Major Kermit (Kit) Fulton, his daughter Michelle Lynn Fulton and his step son Gregory Walker.  

He is survived by his wife Ruth of 32 years, his sister Judy Elston, his children Katie Anthony, Judy and Mike Urness, Jenni and Will Ford, stepchildren Elizabeth Walker and Grayson Walker, grandchildren Jillian McCormick Danielson and Diana McCormick Sinclair, Sarah and Sam Anthony, John Ford and his wife Ashley, Judy and Ruthie Ford, Charlie and Mackenzie Urness and great granddaughter Karlye Dornan. 

A graveside service will be held at Three Mile Cemetery on Friday, June 26th at 10:00 a.m.
