By banning any new natural gas plants and closing coal plants, the State’s Clean Energy Transformation Act reduces supply at the same time as demand is rising. As a result, today’s wholesale power market prices are more than double what they were two years ago. This has increased our power cost by $2.5 million and it’s going to take about a 9% increase in our retail electric rates to cover it.

The Dog Mountain Shuttle celebrated the successful conclusion of its 7th season, providing a safe and accessible transportation option for outdoor enthusiasts visiting Dog Mountain Trailhead to admire the wildflowers. This shuttle service, made possible through a collaborative effort between various organizations and agencies, aims to enhance the visitor experience, address safety concerns along the SR 14 corridor, and mitigate environmental impacts.
United Way is taking its biggest fundraiser in Wasco and Sherman counties into country mode this year at its annual concert and auction at the Bargeway Pub on July 21. Live auction and raffle will spice things up as country music from Jessie Leigh and Huckleberry Road will send your boots to the dance floor. Tickets are on sale now.
These events are open to households, small businesses and Agricultural Producers of Wasco, Hood River, and Sherman Counties. Pre-registration is required for households at the events in Hood River and The Dalles, but not required at rural events.
While some may say his Roto-Rooter business’ ability to reline a sewer pipe without trenching through a driveway, garden or patio at depths of more than 10 feet is amazing, his life story also gives one cause for pause. It is that work ethic and belief in God that has seen TD’s Alex Rodriguez through as a carpenter, Army gunner, and the owner of Roto-Rooter Drain Services in the Mid-Columbia.

The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association is proud to present the musical sensation “Little Shop of Horrors,” directed by Joe Garoutte, with music direction by Dan Kenealy. Based on a cult sci-fi film from 1960, this “strange and unusual” musical is filled with fun and unforgettable tunes. It opens at the Bingen Theater (210 Oak St.) in Bingen, WA, on April 28.
“I’ve been doing this forever,” Jamie Park said on Wednesday, April 12, noting he and Tammerack Knopf just replaced a transmission on a Scion at his new shop. The 38-year-old opened Parke Auto Repair LLC at 2937 E. Second Street earlier this year, striking out on his own after friend Rod Huante helped him out with some capital.

Cameron McKeown and Matthew Bennet are stoked for Sunday as they throw open the season for the Sunday Market with some 20-plus vendors at the 6th Street Station. The market runs from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is the latest addition as the pair is growing a community hub for entertainment, drinks, food, and fun in west TD.
Babita Kainth and Atanu Das are opening their Indian Food Cart called Tadka at the 6th Street Station, 2638 W. Sixth Street on Friday, March 10 for lunch. You best scurry for some curry. “I have the best cook,” said Babita Kainth. Atanu Das is bringing the love in the kitchen. “He cooks that food with a lot of happiness. People like it very well.”
Second Saturday Cleanups is opening up its third season this Saturday, March 11, as Columbia Gorge Toyota & Honda is partnering once again with The Dalles Beautification Committee to clean up The Dalles. In the past 2 years, the program has removed more than 50 yards of garbage from local parks, trails and common areas in The Dalles. Get involved, spend a couple of hours and feel good about your community while making some new friends. Many hands make light work.
The new tax credits, together with cash incentives already offered by Energy Trust of Oregon for both electric and natural gas upgrades, mean utility customers in Oregon and Southwest Washington can save more on items and equipment that may lead to a significant reduction in energy costs.
The Sean Jordan Comedy show makes a stop at the Bingen Theater on Friday, Jan. 20, featuring Sean Jordan, Dianna Potter and Thomas Lundy. Jordan has been named Portland’s Funniest Person by Willamette Week Magazine, has written for Comedy Central, and was named one of the “Comics to Watch” by Splitsider Magazine.
A fundraiser for TD’s Cody Ricks who has undergone surgery and chemotherapy for cancer is on tap at The Dalles Eagles/Elks on Saturday, Jan. 21. The Ruby Friedman Orchestra plays Trout Lake Hall the same night. Comedian Sean Jordan will headline at the Bingen Theater on Friday, Jan. 20.
