Applications Now Open for 2026 Local Government Academy

The Dalles, Ore., July 28, 2026 — Applications are now open for the 2026 Local Government Academy (LGA), a free program that gives community members an inside look at how the City of The Dalles operates.
Through presentations, facility tours, and conversations with City staff and elected officials, participants will learn about City services, programs, decision-making processes, and the responsibilities of each department. The Academy is intended to help participants better understand local government and encourage future involvement through elected office or service on City boards, committees, and commissions.
Sessions will be held Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., beginning September 9 and concluding October 28, 2026. Graduates will be recognized at the City Council meeting on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
Applicants must:
Live within The Dalles city limits;
Be at least 18 years old, except for nominated high school students;
Be interested in future participation in local government; and
Be available to attend all sessions.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 14, 2026. Applicants will be notified of their status no later than Friday, August 21, 2026.
